THROUGH THE WIRE: NEWS (08/06/10)
NBA legend Isiah Thomas will return to the New York Knicks, despite his time as a coach previously having more negative headlines than positive ones. It's been two years since Isiah was fired as the teams coach and president but now this Friday he was re-hired as a consultant. Thomas is 'excited' to be a part of the Knicks organization saying "I was honored to have been asked to help during the recent free agent recruiting process, and believe that this new role takes full advantage of my skill set as an evaluator of basketball talent." Isiah will help in many areas including the recruitment of players, he helped bring in Amare Stoudemire but hopefully he can bring in more talent because after not landing LeBron the Knicks are still a few pieces away from something better. Isiah was one of the best players this league has seen, he looks like he could still play, maybe he could suit up? Or maybe he could bring back Steph...erm.
He's 'Shaq-Daddy', he's been 'The Big Ariostle', 'The Big Shaqtus' in Phoenix, 'The Big Witness' in Cleveland but now Shaquille O'Neal wants a new nickname in Boston. The guy has more aliases than P. Diddy but now he has a new home in Beantown, O'Neal wants a new name, hey maybe 'The Big Bean'. No, obviously that wouldn't work, however the names that are being thrown around on Twitter have included,"The Big Shamrock" "The Big Leprechaun","The Green Monster.","The Jolly Green Giant," "The Shamroq," "Red Auershaq," "Shaqachusetts" and "Tip-in O'Neal." All these names are pretty funny, and pretty good but we all know Shaq's have the last word, or name on this one.
In free agent news 30 year old Keith Bogans has agreed to terms with the Chicago Bulls. Bogans, who last year played with the Spurs inked a two year deal, with the second year being partially guaranteed. Bogans almost followed his former San An teammate Roger Mason Jnr to the Knicks but opted to feel the cool breeze of 'The Windy City' through his hair...oh, sorry Keith. Bogans will provide great scoring off the bench and will supplement guards like Rose well. This Bulls team is making strides and hopefully will join the stampede of contenders in the East especially if they make a move for Rudy Fernandez.
Sean May has also found himself a team in the New Jersey Nets. The former Bobcats Draft Choice who played only 37 games with the Sacramento Kings last year will have a fresh start in Jersey. May was also a promising talent but 'May' has been the right word to describe his potential as injuries and weight issues have cause problems. Sean is still a young player though with plenty of talent. The former standout who brought glory to North Carolina is joining a Nets team with little options apart from Devin Harris, Brook Lopez and Jordan Farmar. Young teams who have been disregarded in the NBA have had a habit in recent years of sneaking up on people. These Nets have the talent and according to all the doubters out there, they've got a lot of time before they make a major move, so why not show them what you've got Jersey?
