Ankle sprains seem to be the injury of the moment in Basketball's World Championships with two casualties this week. First off the USA and Golden State guard maestro Stephen Curry suffered a sprain after a practice in Madrid. The sprain unluckily came in the last minute of a practice scrimmage. Curry is listed as day to day and still has favour in Coach K's rotation. Also Brazil and Cleveland Cavalier emphatic forward/center Anderson Varejao injured his ankle. A Spanish player fell on Varejo causing the injury that added to the insult of the Brazilian team losing 84-68 to Spain. Varejo however is expected to play in tomorrows game against France. So both injuries for both national sides don't seem to be too serious. Brazil and the USA will meet soon in the group stages. Brace yourself guys!
Carlos Arroyo, another star at the World Championships is pursuing a music career. Arroyo is following in the footsteps of Daddy Yankee and hip-hop legend N.O.R.E. and is putting out a Reggeaton album. His new disc is a collaboration with artist Yomo and is called 'Se va Conmigo', which in English is 'She's Coming With Me'...I'm sure she is Carlos! The song is heating up the Reggeaton charts. The Heat guard is in the perfect place in Miami to release his Reggeaton album. The music has a strong following there especially in the vibrant South Beach club scene, which for many a night has cranked out hits such as 'Gasolina' and 'Oye Mi Canto'. Reggeaton and Carlos are also big in Arroyo's native Puerto Rico, whom he is currently playing for in the World Championships. We wish the multi-talented Arroyo all the best in his music career. He follows many NBA players who have tried their skillful hands at music, most recently Tony Parker released a French rap album and guard Kareem Rush has a R&B single out called 'Hold You Down (Promises)' which is a smooth as his 3 point shot.
Keeping it international for today's 'Through The Wire' former NBA player Robert Swift has just inked a deal with the Japanese team Tokyo Apache. Robert will swiftly be reunited with his former Seattle Supersonic coach Bob Hill who now runs things in Tokyo. Swift 'jumped on' the chance to join Apache and joins former NBA player Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, who plays for the Kyoto Hannaryz in the Japanese bj league. Swift has family ties to this great country as his Grandmother is Japanese. Robert has had injury troubles in the past, but his leaping ability, shot blocking, boarding and dunks still leaves many coaches weak at the knees for this surgically repaired center. Tokyo also signed point guard Byron Eaton, who used to play for Oklahoma State.
