THROUGH THE WIRE: NEWS (09/10/10)
If your fed up with the ongoing soap opera surrounding LeBron James, (More drummed up by others, I aint throwing rocks at the throne) why don't you switch over and check out the ongoing 'Carmelo Anthony Show'? The latest drama is there might be some 'Chicago Hope' for 'Melo. The Bulls are reportedly interested in the Nuggets star and both parties are looking at making a deal. Right now the talk of the town is that the deal could involve Joakim Noah, Luol Deng and maybe a couple of draft picks will also breeze their way in to negotiations. If the Bulls pull this deal off they get the franchise guy they always wanted. This will be great for the Bulls as Chicago lobbied hard for Kobe and LeBron when they were free agents but got nothing.
With 'Nike's' 'Jordan Brand' Anthony they would get their first real, bonafide superstar since the air was taken out of the United Centre and he would form one of the L's best one, two punches with budding legend Derrick Rose. The trouble is this deal may not be like for like as Chicago would have to lose two incredible players and their two most marketable stars outside of the U.S. (just look at Noah's jersey sales in France and Dengs in the U.K.). Meanwhile Denver may lose 'their guy' but in return they will get two incredible 'team' players who will fill out the frontcourt and fit into their team dynamic. Right now if things stay the same both teams will still be looking for something extra but if the deal is made both teams would be contenders with this trade, that's the difference.
There have been even more transactions today for the bank of the NBA. According to the agent of Francisco Elson the talented and versatile forward looks set to join the Utah Jazz. The former King will add some more high notes to the Jazz who are still one of the leagues, deepest and best all round teams. Calvin Andrews 'cisco's agent reportedly told the Salt Lake Tribune "I’m glad it worked out...I’m glad for Francisco, and I’m glad for the Jazz.’” Well I'm glad, he's glad. It also seems that veteran forward Joe Smith will bring his regular name and his all-round effective game to the Meadowlands. The New Jersey Nets are looking to give the former Minnesota big a physical today and look to sign him up. Also Darius Miles, (who was recently reported to be working out for the San Antonio Spurs) has been invited to the Charlotte Bobcats camp where he hopes to rebound from a knee injury and gain a roster spot. If this move pays off the Bobcats will really help their young developing team with this choice. We hope for Darius Miles sake too that it does.
The Washington Wizards are taking a leaf out of College Basketball's yearbook as they will host a practice at midnight. This 'Midnight Madness' will take place on the morning of September 28th. The practice will be similar to the way that they do it in college as fans will be invited to watch the open practice and there will be player introductions and prize giveaways. The news Wizards owner Ted Leonsis brought in a lot of new fans and buzz for the NHL's Washington Capitals and he hopes to conjure up some more magic for the Wizards. This practice is set up to motivate the fans and the team who went through an arena of problems last year. Hopefully this midnight mass will be a good start for Washington to restore some faith for their fans but unless Barack Obama himself turns and suits up to play the Wiz are going to have to have a few more tricks up their sleeve.
