THROUGH THE WIRE: NEWS (09/14/10)
First of in WNBA news the Seattle Storm moved that little bit closer to Championship glory with a close 87-84 win over the Atlanta Dream. Seattle thundered their way towards a 2-0 series lead behind this years MVP Lauren Jackson's 26 points. The Storm also put away 19 points in the bank from Swin Cash. The Storm have looked a bit turbulent at times, turning the ball over but they have a perfect 21-0 home record this season. If they want to wrap up this series and be crowned champions now they'll have to take the next game in ATL. The game was close and thrilling. In the last 2 seconds Cash missed two free throws, but it was Atlanta that ended up in debt as they couldn't dream of hoisting up a winning shot. Atlanta's saint, Angel McCoughtry had been averaging 28 points before the final but now she's in need of a prayer in the finals as Seattle's defence are holding her down. If she can make more baskets when the Dream head back home Atlanta just may have a shot.
It looks like talented Utah forward Mehmet Okur wont be making music with the Jazz until well into the regular season. Right now Okur is recovering from left Achilles tendon surgery. Right now Okur is able to run drills and work out with the team but in regards to playing and according to reports he wont be re-evaluated until mid-October, well into the Jazz's preseason games. Okur had the surgery 5 months back but is looking at a potential Christmas/New year return. Now the Jazz are an incredible team but when Okur returns this fall he'll be the perfect stocking/post filler. Utah need him as much as they need a deeper run in the playoffs.
Role playing star Tim Thomas recently signed with the Dallas Mavericks this offseason and talked about how he couldn't be happier. Now however, Tim Thomas will not play for the Mavs this season and may retire from Basketball all together due to his wife's illness. It will be a shame to see a player and a man of his quality retire but more importantly we wish all the best for his wife. The situation is private and out of respect we'll leave it at that. Our thoughts are with the Thomas family.
