THROUGH THE WIRE: NEWS (09/17/10)
Although never one in need of losing a few pounds San Antonio Spurs superstar Tim Duncan has slimmed down for this season. Last season Duncan was 15 pounds lighter and it seems again this summer he really is moving weight like Oprah (We see you Jay-Z). After 14 seasons deep in the L it appears the robot is upgrading and re-tooling all the time. Now it seems the T-bot has shifted some extra components without losing any metal. San An coach Gregg Popovich describes Tim as slim and trim and is looking forward to still being in the title hunt because write them off or not the Spurs are still clicking. The rest of the Western Conference better look out, what's before there eyes aint always San Antonio black and white. Both Duncan and his team are far from old and far from being done. It appears all Duncan needs now is a decent meal.
There's been speculation and talk for months but still Carmelo Anthony remains a Nugget and still he wants out. Right now the winds have changed in Chicago as they aren't prepared to lose the talented Joakim Noah in order to get Melo (and what a lockeroom presence they'd lose too. The problem with any team is not only finding the talent and youth to match Anthony but the teams willing to give up that talent too. A multi-team blockbuster may be on the cards and one team looking to play their hand and part is the New Jersey Nets. Melo would be a great poster boy for a rebuilding Nets especially if they move to Brooklyn. Carmelo could be the new franchise they never had in LeBron (we see you again Jay). Also if Denver got Devin Harris in return they'd receive good insurance in replacing Anthony but with Chauncey Billups they'd crowd their backcourt. The 76ers look like another option even for a multi- deal with the Nets. Now if Andre Iguodala trades places with Anthony he may save Denver money but he won't be the franchise guy that Carmelo is (but he is still a star, top-flight guy in more ways than one). Either way if the Nuggets are going to lose Anthony one way or another and if this summers anything to go by they don't want to lose him like a Bosh or LeBron and get nothing in return.
It seems sometimes that 'beef' in the NBA is as common as it is in hip-hop. Two guys however are looking to become vegetarians and squash their feud. Golden State Warriors talented guard duo of Stephen Curry and Monta Ellis are trying to get on the same page this season after battling to get on the same court last season. Monta Ellis broke out for Golden State years back and after Baron Davis' departure was given the torch to the team, however after an injury last year and the rise of Stephen Curry Monta had to temporarily pass it over. Now these guys are both healthy these Warriors need to stop fighting and realise if they stand side to side in battle they can conquer the Western Conference. Sure their both similar players, with similar games but so were Jordan and Pippen. Now these two may be a long way from those Chi-town legends but they could still form one of the best duos in the NBA and bring glory back to Oak -town.
