It was the game that everyone had been waiting for as the most talked about free agent class in years took Detroit to school. The Miami Heats, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh powered past the Pistons, 105-89. New Heat additions James and Bosh combined for 38 as the big three only played 3 minutes due to a hamstring injury to Wade. "It was something I've waited for all summer," said the King who is been under pressure all offseason like Queen. Bosh led Miami with 20 as they raced to a 20 point first half blowout. Detroit motored back somewhat, thanks to Ben Gordon's 17 points but they were no match for LeBron's 18 and Udonis Haslem double, double addition of 14 points and 13 rebounds. Wade is expected to be out for two weeks but should be available for the season opener where Miami expect to make even more heat.
The Knicks can make like Billy Crystal's NBA referee movie character and 'Forget Paris'. The new look New York left the worlds second most famous city with a defeat they won't want to think twice about. The impressive, new Minnesota Timberwolves beat N.Y. 106-100 in Preseaon play in Paris fresh off downing the Lakers in London on Monday. Anthony Randolph had 14 for the Knicks and Stoudemire had 11 but it was no match for the 17 and 17 from Kevin Love and Martell Webster. The Knicks and Amare, much like the Lakers were surprised how hard Minny played and how serious they took the preseason, but that doesn't excuse the fact that both teams lost. Despite this small market city and teams win over these two huge cities and teams the Wolves still remain hungry and focused. Kevin Love even had hate for his teams turnovers despite the teams handling in not giving a win away. The new Knicks may look good but with Love, Webster, Beasley and Brewer these young pups don't have to worry about Da Kid anymore.
Although controversy has surrounded Gilbert Arenas in all ways for some time he seems to be playing hard instead of talking hard. Still it's clear however that things aren't great in Washington and there may not be much room in the Verizon Center for Arenas. This is especially true when he shares a backcourt with top new draft pick John Wall. While Wall seems to be the answer to what Washington is up against, it seems Agent 0 is one trick the Wizards don't need up their sleeve anymore. So Agent 0's case is to help his rookie partner out before he looks for a new detail. Gilbert says, he's here with the Wiz to "teach John the ins and the outs of the game, and then eventually go on and move on - on my way". This is very humble of Arenas who seems to be wanting to do the right thing lately. He stands with Wall not against him. Besides two guards playing in the same backcourt doesn't always seem to work out all the time. Sure Earl Monroe and Walt Fraizer worked but that was decades ago. More recently Sam Cassell and Gary Payton didn't last too long in Milwaukee while Stephen Curry and Monta Ellis have had their differences in Golden State. It seems that these two stars are ready to coexist however as Arenas has labelled himself 'Robin' to Wall's 'Batman'. If DC can marvel at their two backcourt hero's we might be looking at one of the best guard duo's and one-two punch the L has seen in years. TIM DAVID HARVEY.
