THROUGH THE WIRE: FRIDAY (12/09/10)
24. It looks like the Lakers could be getting invited around for a pickup game in Washington that they can't refuse. President Barack Obama will honor the Lake Show next week during their road trip that sees them play the Washington Wizards on Tuesday, and surely Barack will be on hand for that game as well in his favourite courtside seats. Obama honored the two time champions at the White House last year for their first 'chip (see photo above) but will do this years honoring during the Lakers appearance at a Boys and Girls club that the President will attend also. This will happen a day before the Wizards game but it is unsure whether Obama will lace them up and shoot hoops with the Lakers while watching that bust lip he received in a pickup game last week. Kobe, Gasol and Fisher where part of the current and former NBA superstars that Obama brought together for a private game in August and surely the hoops fan would love to go against Kobe yet again, triple teaming the legend with two of his presidential aids.
48. During Wednesdays game against the Denver Nuggets, Boston Celtics All-Star Kevin Garnett had 17 points and 9 rebounds leading his team to a 105-99 win. Still this wasn't the best move by K.G. that night. The best move came when Kevin reached out to Denver Nuggets coach and cancer survivor George Karl and apologised for some distasteful comments he made last month. During some trash talk against Detroit Pistons forward Charlie Villanueva during a game at the start of the season, Garnett said that the alopecia universalis sufferer looked like a "cancer patient." These disgusting remarks caught Garnett a lot of flack and Coach Karl was not impressed. Still after the Celtics, Nuggets game Garnett told press about Karl, "I went up to him as a man, and what I said is that I had nothing personal toward him nor any other cancer patient that was out there struggling, dealing with life situations." This "classy gesture" promoted the coach to also say "I appreciate that he took the time to do it. Kevin has always been one of my favorite players." Now Garnett has learnt his lesson it's time to move on and put this in the past. Besides there's other things to worry about. After that Denver loss George Karl is still on 999 wins.
82. The 7 and 16, bottom of the east New Jersey Nets need all the help they can get right now as things are going from worse in the league to even badder. Their star guard and ray of light Devin Harris was taken out of New Jersey's loss against the Dallas Mavericks during the first quarter on Wednesday with a sprained shoulder. Harris injured his left shoulder after trying to deflect an alley-oop pass. Devin tried to break up the play but instead broke himself as he hit the floor hard. It is unsure when the 17.1 averaging guard will return. Without their point scorer and point man the Nets now have even more to prove.
O.T. Speaking of that particular game. Jason Kidd and the Dallas Mavericks just wont stop, defying age and critics by taking apart the Nets to win their 11Th straight...Mavericks owner still believes that the Miami Heat are the "top team" in the league despite everyone else writing them off...Collins and Mullens of Charlotte and Oklahoma respectively have had their playing time expanded, by being assigned to the D-League...SLAMonline reports that the Cavs may be looking to trade Antwan Jamison...CBS Sports.com have also reported that the co-founder of Yahoo is not interested in buying the New Orleans Hornets. I guess it's time to search for a new buyer. Ask Jeeves anyone? TIM DAVID HARVEY
