THROUGH THE WIRE: TUESDAY (12/21/10)
24. Just when things couldn't get better for revolutionary, young talent Brandon Jennings, they don't. The star guard will miss four to six weeks at the point as surgery to repair a fracture in his left foot has left him in need of recovery like an Eminem comeback album. Brandon broke the long bone on the outside of his foot, this bone connects to the little toe. Jennings first experienced the pain against San Antonio but he still took part in Milwaukee's loss against Utah on Saturday, but then the Buck stopped there. This courage led Milwaukee's general manager John Hammond (no he wasn't in 'Jurassic Park') to say, "I think it shows you a lot about Brandon, the people who haven't had a chance to watch him in his first year and a quarter, I don't think anyone is going to question his competitive spirit." The Bucks can ill afford to miss Jennings 17.9 points and 5.5 assists per but reserves Keyon Dooling and Earl Boykins can still drop dimes and score over quarters.
48. Just when you thought it was safe for him to come off the injury list Andrew Bynum is suffering from some pain. During the Lakers win at Toronto on Sunday Bynum felt some pain in his knee whilst going in for a rebound. There where tweaks and tremors during the Toronto game and stiffness during practice. 'Drew told LA Times press that "They tell me it's just something I'm going to have to deal with." All of this uncertainty is too much for this injury prone centre to deal with but still the strong player is keeping a strong mind. The good news is there is no swelling in the knee and even better Bynums performance against the Raptors was healthy with a great 16 points and 7 rebounds in only 18 minutes. Almost notching a double, double in a quarter and a half is huge for any big man, especially this one.
82. Just when you thought we were done with injury for today's 'Through The Wire', it's time to look some more into the Yao Ming situation. The ice hasn't even melted on the centres season ending ankle injury and the Houston Rockets have asked the NBA for a disabled player salary cap exception. This move if granted would allow the Rockets to sign a free agent, or trade for a player without having to match salaries, up to the value of the mid level exception. The exception is around $5.7 mill. Houston may be in luck as the NBA are in a generous mood. They granted the exception to the Portland Trail Blazers who also lost season ending, injury prone, centre Greg Oden this campaign. Still with all these centre injuries who's left to buy in this donut league?
O.T. For the Miami Heat to really contend, LeBron James needs to point forward and by literally taking this position that Larry Johnson made famous (Pat Riley knows something about this two) he intends to do this...the Los Angeles team not called 'Lakers' have been clipped at the forward position as Craig Smith will miss 2 weeks with back injury concerns...the NBA have completed the purchase of the N.O Hornets, but the team still must find a new owner. TIM DAVID HARVEY.
Finally our thoughts and prayers go out to Hornets guard Willie Green and his family. Green lost his cousin and sister in a car crash.
