THROUGH THE WIRE: TUESDAY (02/01/11)
24. Now here's something that Denver fans hope will be a Nugget of truth. Coach, George Karl believes that Carmelo Anthony will remain in white and baby blue to the seasons out. The Nuggets recently got the best of a New Jersey side that almost netted 'Melo before Russian owner, Mikhail Prokhorov killed the deal. The 1,000+ coach told press in the Garden State that Denver "can be excited about being a very, very good team." Still Anthony didn't address press on Monday. Even if he does the last season, that's when he becomes free to do what he wants. Is his silence speaking volumes? Sound off in our comments section below.
48. The Lakers are suffering a few leaks in their championship machine right now. So G.M. Mich Kupchak wants to make some moves to steady the ship. "Regarding a trade, I may have to," the Lake Show's one-time power forward told NBA.com. "I'm not saying that I've made calls today or I'll make them tomorrow. But I just don't think that we're playing as well as our talent level should allow us," he added, hinting that if the Lakers put down more games he'll be picking up the phone. After a big loss to Boston and inconsistencies by the bus load, Kupchak believes that owner Jerry Buss feels the same. It's time for L.A. To stop being so disconnected. The showtime must go on.
82. New York Knick legend Allen Houston will be honored by his old College alumni. The Tennessee Volunteers plan to retire Allen's number 20 according to CBS Sportsline. The Knoxville team are thankful for this two-time All-American and four-time All-SEC player. Houston is Tennessee's all-time leading scorer with 2,801 points in his four year career that started in the late 80's. The behind the arc purist who graduated in '93 was an 11th pick in the NBA Draft the same year. Right now the N.Y. Bball icon serves as the Knicks' assistant general manager. Fellow former Knick Bernad King and Ernie Grunfeld are the only other Volunteers to have their uniforms raised to the rafters. Needless to say Allen is honored.
O.T. Now Deron Williams will miss another game for Utah. Well they do say bad things come in threes...Eddie House may have only needed a few seconds to beat Oklahoma this weekend with his Heat but now he's going to need $25,000 for some hot, obscene gestures he made...his teams leader LeBron isn't one for the negative gestures anymore, wishing his former Cleveland team the best. Guess he wants some good karma, but will the Cavs give it him? Still there are some positive repercussions for the King as he was named the Eastern Conference Player Of The Week, while Memphis' big talent Zach Randolph took the honors out West again.
