The defending World Champions Spain are out this years FIBA championship after a chock 92-89 loss to Serbia. One of the favourites of this tournament where dealt a defeat by one of the tournaments rising talents. Serbian Milos Teodosic with 3.1 seconds left drained both a deep three pointer and Spain's hopes of going further this year. It all looked so promising for Spain, who erased a 8 point deficit in the final 8 minutes of play after a Marc Gasol bucket capped things off, but the final 25seconds and possession belonged to Serbia. After the ball left Teodosic's hands the only thing it touched was twine. The 'garbage man' Jorge Garbajosa couldn't take the trash out on time as he couldn't get a shot off as the clock expired as well as the Spaniards repeat dream. Time for a siesta.
The Golden State Warriors have given their bench more polish by signing Rodney Carney (Pictured left next to Jrue Holiday). The former Philly, Minny and Chi-town swingman is young, untapped talent and he has signed for a team that is stocked with raw potential. Hopefully both parties will develop together but either way Rod is a spark plug off the bench. Last year with the 76ers he may have only averaged 12.6 minutes per game but in that time he managed to log 4.7 points and 2.0 rebounds. This means a guy like Carney can effectively spell a teams best guard player and still contribute when the games in it's lull stages. The Warriors have made a golden pickup on this one.
It wasn't just all a dream for Atlanta in the WNBA. We said yesterday that by today ATL may seal their place in the final where the players play and they sure have getting the out of towners New York to the tune of a 105-93 liberation. Atlanta have done tremendously outlasting the Liberty for a clean sweep in this series. To win Atlanta's Angel McCoughtry went basket for basket with legend Cappie Pondexter on her way to a career high 42 points. Pondexter tied her postseason best with 36 but she and her team were not enough to give Atlanta a nightmare who put to rest the team from the city that never sleeps. The Atlanta Dream will now face The Seattle Storm in the WNBA Finals best of 5 series, that starts on Sunday.
