THROUGH THE WIRE: NEWS (10/08/10)

Rick Carslile, coach of the Dallas Mavericks was taken to hospital today after he collapsed at practice. Sarah Melton, the Mavericks Spokesman stated that "was apparently lightheaded" and fainted on the practice floor. When Carslile was carried to a stretcher he was conscious and responding to questions. He was taken to hospital with team personnel. The 50 year old coach is said to be feeling better and the reason he was taken to the hospital was for precautionary measures. We hope that he gets better soon and this is nothing too serious.



The New Jersey Nets are leaving the Meadowlands for a brief world tour, stopping at Russia and China for some preseason play. It seems however that their new, star forward Troy Murphy will not be joining them. Murphy is injured and will be out indefinitely with a lower back injury. An MRI on the Power Forward showed a low back strain and inflammation. The talented forward who has career averages of 12.1 points and 8.6 rebounds became a Jersey boy after a four team trade this offseason. Troy's injury will be reevaluated on the teams return and it is hoped that he will return soon as he will be one of the lead key foundations for this rebuilding teams quest to lock up a playoff spot. The Nets and Murphy hope that the only disappointment that comes with this injury is the fact that Troy's going to have to unpack his suitcase for this road trip.



New York City streetball legend John Strickland passed away on Wednesday. Strickland has recently been working with the Halifax Rainmen of the Premier Basketball League in the front office as their Director of Basketball Development. He passed away during his sleep. He was 38 years old. The 6 foot 8 forward was considered one of the greatest streetball legends of all time and to see why hit the jump above. If you didn't know, no you know. Most recently Strickland became the first person to win a title at Nike Pro City as a player and a coach when he took Gold’s Gym to championship glory this year. The versatile talent averaged an incredible 40 points per game. Strickland was s real as it gets even being mentioned in Jay-Z's 'PSA' with the famous line, “No one can do it better. I check cheddar like a food inspector. My homey Strick told me, ‘Dude, finish your breakfast.’” Our thoughts go out to John Stricklands friends and family. Rest In Peace. TIM DAVID HARVEY.
