THROUGH THE WIRE: TUESDAY (12/07/10)
24. There have been rumours flying around that former Philadelphia 76er and NBA star Allen Iverson is unhappy in Turkey. Birds have been tweeting but the legend logged on to his Twitter account to dismiss these rumours as fabrication. On the limited characters he had Iverson tweeted his seemingly limitless love for his club and country. "I am very happy here in Istanbul. My family and I are making this our home," the answer expressed. He also praised the "good chemistry" he has developed with his "great" teammates. Allen recognised what we all see now, that these rumours where just the product of critics trying to bring him down and sour his fresh start. A.I. finally added, "For those of you who really care about me just know this, I am very pleased and enjoying this ride." The guard who is averaging 9.6 points and 3.6 assists in 5 games is feeling like part of a team and feeling a little at home. It's now the critics who miss him now he's away.
(Do YOU Come with the team?)
48. It looks like the New Orleans Hornets aren't the only team about to be sold. The Detroit Pistons are also garnering some interest. The Detroit Red Wings and Tigers owner Mike Ilitch has been rumoured to be interested in buying Motown's basketball franchise. Still however when asked about these plans Ilitch kept quiet saying, "Mum's the word". NBA Commissioner David Stern thought a deal would happen last month but it now looks like nothing will transpire until next year. Ilitch is looking for two franchises that could help him build a new arena in Detroit and the Pistons could help motor this on (although there is nothing wrong with the 'Palace' they have now). If this move happens Ilitch will make history as the only owner to own teams in the NBA, NHL and MLB. Why stop there? Doesn't he like football?
(Tolliver back in the NCAA. Now that's a fall).
82. Minnesota Timberwolves forward Anthony Tolliver is set to miss around six to eight weeks after spraining a right knee ligament. The talented Tolliver (who is averaging 6.4 points for a depleted squad) injured himself in the first half of a Timberwolve Western Conference clash with the San Antonio Spurs. The player himself wants to return sooner than his injury prognosis. An MRI exam revealed his right knee has suffered a sprained MCL. Allen Iverson isn't the only ball player tweeting as Tolliver answered concerns by posting the statement, "I'll b back b4 then! Trust me..." Let's hope this character translates into development.
O.T. Just a fortnight after being named the NBA Players of the Week for the East and the West respectively Amare Stoudemire and Russell Westbrook have been given this honor once again...the Miami Heat continue their positive rebound with another win. A victory which saw Wade grab a career high 14 boards...the Lakers Andrew Bynum took one of the biggest steps towards his comeback, by completing his first full practice with the Lake Show since his knee injury five months back...speaking of returning from injury, it looks like Carlos Boozers back on top form as the Chicago Bulls forward powered his team past the Thunder with 29 points...the Pacers are also shooting brilliantly as their 55% from the field helps them become yet another team to rout the Raptors...while down in Florida it was the ATL that reigned supreme as Josh Smith led his Hawks past the Orlando Magic.
