THROUGH THE WIRE: WEDNESDAY (12/22/10)
24. He has been compared to Larry Bird his whole career, albeit a bit basically, white, blonde, shoots threes. Still Dirk Nowitzki has made a legendary career for himself and as of last night during the Dallas Mavericks 105-99 win against the Orlando Magic Dirk passed Larry Legend on the NBA's all time scoring list. The Mavericks big man hit 17 which moves him to 25 points flying past Birds previous position. Being inside the top 25 scorers of all time really does stress the fact that Dirk is one of the best ever. The revolutionary big man who helped spearhead the drive of European outside shooter in the leagues wide array of offensive skills has now given him 21,798 career points, and he isn't done yet. Mavs coach Rick Carlisle told press, "I got a text message form Larry Bird as the game ended, saying to congratulate Dirk and that he's always been a huge fan." looks like real recognises real, now it's time for everyone to realise just how good this German wunderkid is.
48. The Milwaukee Bucks best player Brandon Jennings may have been out but they could afford to miss him in this one as they defeated the Lakers 89-79 at Staples. Without Jennings, little man Earl Boykins came up big with a season high 22 (including four dagger three pointers), while talented forward, John Salmons added 20 as the Bucks stopped the Lake Show. Still Kobe Bryant had 21 points before he was ejected for a second technical and Pau Gasol had 15 points and 11 rebounds yet again seeing double. The Lakers where scoreless for four minutes in the fourth as the Bucks galloped away on a 21-7 run which sealed the victory. Corey Maggette and Drew Gooden where also out for the Bucks but star Andrew Bogut made sure that was a no factor with 15 points. Right before Christmas Leonardo DiCaprio and Dr. Dre where on hand to watch their Los Angeles team fall. As the Hollywood brethren and the Lakers didn't get what they want Kobe left the court after being ejected, swearing and refusing to talk to reporters. Still Lamar Odom told us what we all knew, "We just didn't play well."
82. Impressive Chicago Bulls youngster Taj Gibson missed yesterdays game against the Philadephia 76er's and is still out after suffering concussion. Gibson suffered the concussion during Chicago's Saturday loss to the Los Angeles Clippers at the United Centre. Gibson's 9.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per have been brilliant for the Bulls this year but as he is the second forward out Chi-town face some troubles. It really is a good job that Carlos Boozer is back because with Joakim Noah out and now Gibson Chicago really has to take this injury rut by the horns right now. Still even though they missed Gibson and Noah that didn't stop the Bulls from routing Philly by an incredible 45 points. Now how's that for a charge?
O.T. It's been rumored by SLAM Online that Carmelo Anthony would be willing to accept a trade to the New Jersey Nets. 'Willing' doesn't exactly sound like the best word, especially after 'Melo's desires to form a superteam just a little bit further uptown...Boston have been suffering an injury glut at the point guard but talented backup Delonte West expects a resolution as he aims to be back in January of the new year...in an California classic that went to overtime the weary Golden State battled past the Sacramento Kings...in other games the New Jersey Nets ended a 10 game slide, but let's hope they don't start another one...while a late storm by the Oklahoma Thunder helped them turn Charlotte into pussycats.
